Caleb Gets a Special Visit From Tim Thomas

2009-10-27

Caleb and Tim

Boston Bruins Goalie visits Caleb in the Hospital

Caleb's Blog as of October 27.

Caleb is doing amazing! He is progressing so fast, even the doctors are amazed. He is walking slowly on his own. He gets more movement in his right hand and arm every day. He is talking more, but not yet his chatty self. He is eating all solid foods now. Yesterday they finally took out his feeding tube, and PICC line came out. Hooray!!! There are no more tubes or IVs at all. He is completely free. We are so happy. Caleb is definetly getting his sense of humor back, Grandpa had him giggle hard last night. It is so good to see that wonderful smile again.

Yesterday Kurt took Caleb out to the gardens with his Papa, Uncle Derek and cousin Sam. They had a hockey stick that the BC team had signed and given to Caleb. Kurt wanted to get Caleb up and try walking, he gave Caleb the hockey stick to balance himself. He really didn't need the stick. Papa had a presciption bottle in his pocket, so the used that for a puck. Caleb started to shoot the bottle to Papa and Derek. It truly is amazing, Caleb wasn't even walking 4 days ago!!!

One of the neurosurgeons came into the room on Friday while Caleb and I were reading. He said that he was just coming in on his own to tell us that Caleb is doing really really well. He said "I know that we tell everyone that, but he really is doing well. If you look at his MRI scan and where is is now, he is miles ahead of where he should be." I was really happy to hear that. That was nice of the doctor to come in just to tell us that. (They usually come in as a team to talk to us or look at Caleb.) We are so proud of Caleb!!

Also, for all of you that missed the Bruins game on Saturday, you missed a shout out to Caleb. He was so excited. Caleb called to tell me that they said his name on TV at the Boston Bruins game. That was the most excited I have heard him since all this happened. That was such a cool thing for him to hear. So Thank you to all that made it possible!!!!

Hopefully tomorrow he will be moved to the rehabilitation center. At the rate that he is going, he shouldn't be in there too long. (At least we hope, we really don't know though.) He will definetly need speech therapy though.

Thank you all for the love and support, food and gift cards. We really do apprieciate it all!!!!

I will try to post some pictures in the next couple of days, because Caleb looks fabulous!
